Subject:   Surgery for FMS

Message Posted

I have heard alot of information on surgery for FMS.
It involves the Chiari which is located at the base of your skull. This is where the brain stem meets with the spinal cord (Brain Stem).
FMS is believed by some to be caused by a narrower opening in the base of the skull. It is said to be pinching off the messages between our brain and our body.
It is diagnosed by an MRI. I am scheduled to have one on August 14th. I hope this may bring some information on possible help for my condition. I believe I saw an episode of 20/20 with this surgery on it.
They had several people who had this surgery on it. They had very encouraging stories from some and not so encouraging for others.
I have had FMS for 16 years. I also have a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Originally I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome following a severe episode of mono.
I hope this information as vague as it is will be useful in finding help for some of us with FMS.
Good Luck!
Jackie
